High-speed hydrofoil ferry service in Kerala
The country’s first high-speed hydrofoil ferry service connecting the Vizhinjam port in the State capital and Marine Drive in Kochi and Beypore port in Kozhikode.

Details:
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of Ports and the Dubai-based Safe Boat Trips, run by Non-Resident Keralities (NoRKs), to begin the service for cruise and leisure.


Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2016:
Karnataka Legislative Assembly adopted the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which gives additional powers to the police.
Karnataka Police Bill, 2016:
  • The Bill states that there is a need to give more powers to the police “as negligence on the part of the staff as well as school management is being revealed in almost all the cases so far reported”. 
  • The Bill also provides for the appointment of the Deputy Commissioner of the district concerned as chairperson of the District Police Complaints Authority instead of the present practice of appointing regional commissioners.

The Lifeline Express: 25 years of changing lives
Lifeline Express (LLE), the world’s first hospital on a train, inaugurated on July 16, 1991, completed 25 years  having treated persons with disability in rural areas.
The Impact India Foundation (IIF), Mumbai-based NGO which operates the train, is now looking to extend its medical service to major surgeries.
About:
LLE conducts medical projects by camping in different parts of the country.
  • Each camp of 21-35 days involves treatment of patients, training and awareness programmes among the rural population and local doctors.
  • While the Foundation operates the train, the Railways look after the maintenance of the coaches and provision of water and electricity.


11th Meeting of Inter- State Council Meeting:
PM Narendra Modi chaired the 11th meeting of Inter-State Council. Union Ministers and Chief Minister of all 31 states were in attendance.
Highlights:
  • Education should be such that makes students inquisitive, curious.
  • Vivekananda had said education was the building of character, enhance your capabilities, to be able to stand on your feet.
  • We have to make our youths such that they can think logically, use their minds.
  • One of the agendas of today is internal security.
  • Our country can't be secured till there is intelligence sharing, cooperation and state of the art facilities.
  • Interstate council gives us a chance to listen to various suggestions freely.
  • This will not just enshrine the values of cooperative federalism, but will ensure a better future for our citizens.
