PM Modi dedicates seven new home-grown plant species to the nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated seven new indigenously developed varieties of plants to the nation to mark the 75th anniversary of the Council
of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
- The new varieties of the plants that have ornamental and medicinal qualities were developed by the CSIR laboratories, especially Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP).
India suspends talks on Indus water pact
The Union government has decided to set up an inter-ministerial committee to study India’s further options on the Indus Waters Treaty. The decision came during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting to review the treaty following the terror attack in Uri.
- The government decided to suspend talks on the Permanent Indus Commission, the dispute redressal mechanism that has met 112 times, until “terror comes to an end.” According to Article VIII of the Indus Waters Treaty, the Commission must meet once a year, alternately in India and Pakistan. The last meeting was held in July 2016.
New postal circle for Telangana State launched
A postal circle co-terminus with Telangana State was inaugurated by Union Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu here on Sep 26, 2016.
- It is the 23rd circle in the country. It will on an average disburse social security pensions to 17.7 lakh persons.
Centre clears 3 airport projects for A.P
The Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports headed by the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation gave ‘in principle’ approval to three new airport projects in Andhra Pradesh and 1 in Telangana.
- These are Bhogapuram and Dagadarthi (Nellore) and Orvakallu (Kurnool).
- PPP mode.
- The Steering Committee has also recommended ‘site clearance’ for the new greenfield airport project at Kothagudem in Telangana. With this, Telangana would get a second greenfield airport besides the Hyderabad International airport.
RS to e-publish gazette notifications
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat will switch to e-publishing of gazette notifications, a year after the Centre stopped physical printing of notifications after announcing the e-gazette project in October 2015.
- Gazette notification is an important legal requirement to validate, authenticate and to make effective various kinds of laws, rules, orders and Government decisions.
Health Ministry receives detailed report on Scrub Typhus from HP Govt
In view of the rising number of cases and reported deaths due to of Scrub Typhus in Himachal Pradesh, Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family
Welfare had sought a detailed report from the State Government.
- Having received
the detailed report, the Union Health Minister has assured all support to
the Himachal Pradesh Government in managing the endemic disease observed
in this region.
Tamil Nadu tops national
average in remittances:
International remittances
(money sent by migrants back home) constituted 14% of Tamil Nadu’s gross state
domestic product in 2015, almost three times the national average, according to
a study by Western Union, the world’s biggest money transfer firm.
- As per the data, remittances to
Tamil Nadu were estimated to be Rs. 61,843 crore in 2015. The figure is
6.8 times the money that the State received from the Central government as
revenue transfer and 1.8 times the entire government expenditure.

in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these
