Cabinet approves revision of ethanol price
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the mechanism for revision of ethanol price for supply to Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to carry out the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme.
  • For the next sugar season 2016-17 during ethanol supply period from 1st December, 2016 to 30th November, 2017, the administered price of ethanol for the EBP Programme will be Rs.39/- per litre.


CCEA approves revision of ethanol prices for supply to Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 13 October 2016 approved the mechanism for revision of ethanol price for supply to Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to carry out the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme.
  • The administered price of ethanol for the Programme will be 39 rupees per litre for the next sugar season from 1 December 2016 to 30 November 2017.


India to eliminate use of HFC-23 by 2030
Taking the lead on tackling climate change, India has announced that it will eliminate the use of HFC-23, a greenhouse gas that harms the ozone layer, by 2030.
  • The announcement came at a meeting of parties to the Montreal Protocol at Kigali in Rwanda where final negotiations are taking place to substantially reduce the use of HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) by 2030.


Smaller parties, Independents in Rajya Sabha unite for more talk time
Vice-President Hamid Ansari has formally recognised a group of 22 MPs belonging to parties with less than four MPs and certain independents as a consolidated block — the United Group.
  • This is only the third time in the history of Indian Parliament that this is happening, the first was in 1983, and the second in 1990.


Women of India Festival 2016:

‘Women of India Festival 2016’ of organic products by women was recently inaugurated in New Delhi.
  • The Festival will offer on sale the biggest selection of organic products ranging from food, fabrics and furniture to wellness, personal care and solar products.
  • It is being organised and sponsored by the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development.


Dharmendra Pradhan launches National Seismic Programme in Mahanadi Basin
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (with Independent charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, on 13 October 2016 launched the National Seismic Programme (NSP) on Mahanadi basin (onshore) in Odisha.


India gets first Iranian oil parcel for emergency reserves
India has received the first parcel of Iranian oil to partly fill its strategic storage in southern India, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd , which imported the very large crude carrier (VLCC).
  • MRPL shipped in 2 million barrels of Iranian oil in the VLCC Dino.


Retail inflation slows to 4.31% as vegetable prices cool
Retail inflation in September dropped to a 13-month low of 4.31 per cent mainly on account of easing vegetables prices.
  • Retail inflation, measured by Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 5.05 per cent in August. It was 4.41 per cent in September 2015.
  • The previous low of 3.74 per cent was recorded in August last year.


Nobel Prize for Literature:
The American singer songwriter Bob Dylan has won the 2016 Nobel prize for literature.
  • He is the first American to win the prize since novelist Toni Morrison, in 1993.


Maldives quits Commonwealth, against ‘unfair treatment’ after Nasheed ouster
The Maldives on Thursday pulled out of the Commonwealth calling as “unjust” the grouping’s decision to penalise the island nation over the circumstances that led to then President Mohamed Nasheed’s ouster in 2012 and the lack of subsequent progress in resolving the political unrest.
  • The Maldives Foreign Ministry termed “difficult” but “inevitable” the decision to leave the Commonwealth, a grouping of 53 nations that were mostly territories of the former British Empire.


Xi Jinping to begin milestone Bangladesh visit
Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive here on Friday, kicking off a “milestone” visit, the first by a Chinese head of state to Bangladesh in three decades since President Li Xiannian’s visit in March 1986.
  • During Mr. Xi's visit, Bangladesh and China will sign a number of cooperative agreements to implement the Beijing-proposed ‘Belt and Road Initiative’


Amrit Lugun concurrently accredited as the Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea 
Shri Amrit Lugun, presently Ambassador of India to the Republic of the Sudan, has been concurrently accredited as the Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea, with residence in Khartoum(Sudan).


R.A. Mashelkar conferred award by Centre for Organisation Development
R. A. Mashelkar, former Director-General of CSIR, has been conferred the V Krishnamurthy Award for excellence by the Hyderabad-based Centre for Organisation Development.


Renowned writer and litterateur Dayanand Anant passed away at 88
Renowned writer and litterateur from Uttarakhand, Dayanand Anant, passed away today at his residence in Bhowali near Nainital.




King of Thailand dies
Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej - the world's longest-serving monarch - has died aged 88.
  • King Bhumibol, the ninth king of the 234-year-old Chakri dynasty. After the demise of the Thai King, 63-year old Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn is expected to become the new king.


Dario Fo, Nobel-winning playwright, dies aged 90
The Nobel prizewinning playwright and actor Dario Fo, famous for his cutting political satire in plays such as The Accidental Death of an Anarchist, has died aged 90.


British Olympics icon Jessica Ennis-Hill announces retirement from athletics
Jessica Ennis-Hill has announced her retirement from athletics. 
  • Ennis-Hill, 30, who won a gold medal for heptathlon at London 2012, hinted after winning silver at Rio 2016 that she could leave the sport.
