FIP Congress in Istanbul, 25
September marks the annual World Pharmacists Day. FIP encourages the world's
pharmacists to use this day to organise activities that promote and advocate
for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the
world.

you” is the theme of this year’s World Pharmacists Day.
PM launches different schemes
worth Rs 5000 cr in Varanasi .

- Doubling and electrification of 120-km-long

expenditure of Rs 750.66 crore.
- An expansion project of the Diesel Locomotive Works
and Felicitation of selected beneficiaries of Sukanya Samriddhi
Yojana, and handed over LPG connections to select Ujjwala
beneficiaries.
- Released a commemorative postage stamp on Varanasi
City.
ISRO starts landing tests for
Chandrayaan-2 mission
The Indian Space Research Organsiation has
started a series of ground and aerial tests linked to the critical Moon landing
of Chandrayaan-2 in Karnataka.
- It is an advanced version of the previous
Chandrayaan-1 mission. It consists of an orbiter, lander and rover
configuration.
Election Commission’s new
initiative
The government has amended rule 23 of the
Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 enabling service voters, including armed
forces personnel, to cast their vote in elections through e-postal ballot.
- Through this move, the government has accepted a
long-pending demand which will save valuable time.

Haji Ali Dargah to allow entry of women
In a
huge victory for equal right to worship for women, the Haji Ali Dargah Trust
conceded before the Supreme Court that it has resolved to allow women to
enter the sanctum sanctorum of the famed dargah in Mumbai on a “par with men”.
- The foundations of the value of equality are
deeply-rooted in the structure of Islam... the value of equality is not
simply a matter of constitutional rights or agreement of noblemen or
condescending charity

Sangha sets aside quota for SC/STs, women
For
the first time in its 126-year history, the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha
(KVS), which played a key role in the freedom movement and State unification
movement, has decided to provide reservation in the executive committee for
Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and women.
- Accordingly, two seats in the nine member executive
committee — one each for SCs/STs and women — would be reserved

Sons sacks Cyrus Mistry
Tata Sons board on Monday
sacked Cyrus Mistry, less than four years into his term at the helm of the
software-to-steel conglomerate.
- The board gave no reason for the abrupt removal of
the 48-year-old Irish citizen and named his predecessor Ratan Tata, 78, as
interim chairman.
- Mr. Mistry was the sixth chairman of the group and the only the second chairman who did not carry the Tata name, after Nowroji Saklatwala.
China’s space lab launches
micro-satellite
Tiangong-2, the experimental space lab of
China has successfully launched a micro-satellite, Banxing-2 (the word means
Companion Satellite).
- The micro-satellite is roughly the size of a desktop printer. At present, Tiangong-2 is orbiting the Earth with two astronauts on board.
Bank of America unveils
AI-powered 'personal finance' bot
Bank of America has unveiled a virtual
assistant called Erica, that uses artificial intelligence and predictive
analytics to learn consumers' personal spending habits and offer financial
advice.
- It will help users understand financial concepts and
warn them of imminent risks, among other things.
Portugal's Renato Sanches wins
2016 European Golden Boy Award
Portugal’s Renato Sanches on 24 October 2016
was awarded the 2016 European Golden Boy award.
- Sanches will be handed a trophy at a Monte Carlo
ceremony. He defeated Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Bayern's
Kingsley Coman and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to bag the
prize.
- Sanches was selected following a vote by journalists
from 30 newspapers across Europe to name the best player in 2016 under the
age of 21.
FIFA U-17 WC in India to start
from October 6 next year
The U-17 FIFA World Cup will be held in India
from October 6 to 28 next year, with the draw scheduled for July 7.
- The tournament will be held in six cities across the
country, namely Kochi, Mumbai , Goa, Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata.
- This will be the first time India will host a FIFA-accredited football tournament.
