International Hockey Federation appoints Jason McCracken as new CEO

The International Hockey Federation has appointed New Zealand's Jason McCracken as its Chief Executive Officer.
  • McCracken will be leaving his role as Head of Insurance and Investment Risk at banking group ANZ to take on his new post at FIH's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. 
  • He will replace Kelly Fairweather, who is leaving for the International Tennis Federation after six years in the role.

Centre forms panel to resolve telco penalty row
The Telecom Ministry has formed a committee to look into the regulator TRAI’s recommendation of a Rs.3,050 crore penalty on top three telcos — Airtel, Vodafone and Idea — for denial of interconnection points to Reliance Jio.
  • The committee has been asked to give a report on the recommendations soon. While the timeline for submission of the report is not confirmed, it is likely to be before November 15.

Ninth century library in Morocco goes digital
A ninth century library in Morocco, widely believed to be the oldest in the world, is going digital to make its ancient treasures available to a wider audience.
  • The al-Qarawiyyin library in the former Moroccan capital, Fez, is home to some of the rarest and most unique manuscripts in the world, with access limited to just the curator in some special cases.

Legendary football Carlos Alberto Torres dies
Legendary footballer Carlos Alberto Torres passed away on 25 October 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Carlos was known for scoring one of the greatest goals in World Cup history in 1970 final against Italy.
