Ministry of Urban Development has approved projects worth Rs.114 cr under
Heritage Infrastructure Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) for
improving infrastructure facilities around core heritage sites in five cities
of Varnasi, Amritsar, Dwaraka, Puri and Warangal.
- The National Heritage Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) aims to preserve and rejuvenate the rich cultural heritage of the country.
Haj comes under the control of
new Ministry
The Centre formally
announced that the work related to management of Haj pilgrimage, including
administration of the Haj Committee Act, 2002 and rules has been transferred
from the Ministry of External Affairs to Ministry of Minority Affairs with
effect from October 1.
- The Haj management involves concerted efforts of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Health, the Consulate General of India, Jeddah (CGI), the Haj Committee of India (HCoI) and the State/UT Haj Committees.
India to host first AMCDRR after Sendai Framework
The Government of India is hosting the first Asian Ministerial Conference
for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) next month in collaboration with the
United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
- The hosting of the Conference re-affirms India’s commitment to the cause of Disaster Risk Reduction.
250 agri markets integrated with online platform surpassing target:
Minister
The Centre has integrated 250 regulated agricultural markets across 10
States to the online trading platform for agriculture produce, e-NAM,
surpassing the target of 200 set for the period.
- The Agriculture
Ministry had set a target of connecting all 585 mandis to the e-platform
by March 2018.
- E-NAM, or the National Agriculture Market, is a pan-India electronic portal for the sale and purchase of agricultural produce launched in April this year.
Government integrates 250
mandis in 10 states with e-agriculture market in 1st phase
The government has
integrated 250 mandis in 10 states with the electronic national agriculture market
(e-NAM) in the first phase.
- In April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the e-NAM on a pilot basis with 22 mandis in eight states.

Arjun Vajpai scales Mt. Cho
Oyu
Arjun Vajpai, a 23-year-old
professional mountaineer from Noida, became the youngest in the world to scale
the Mount Cho Oyu, the 6th highest mountain peak in the world at 8,188 metres
above sea level.
- This was Vajpai’s second attempt to climb Cho Oyu after he was paralysed midway in 2012.
