Delhi Declaration on Agrobiodiversity Management
The 1st International Agrobiodiversity Congress was recently held in New
Delhi. It was attended by 900 participants from 60 countries.
- Throughout the Congress, delegated discussed various
aspects of access, conservation and use of agrobiodiversity.
- Based on these deliberations, the delegates
unanimously adopted the declaration at the concluding session.
Government rolls out Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana for
entrepreneurs
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has announced launch
of Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana to scale up an ecosystem of entrepreneurship for
youngsters.
- The scheme spans over five years (2016-17 to
2020-21) with a project cost of Rs 499.94 crore.
- It will provide entrepreneurship education and
training to over 7 lakh students in 5 years through 3,050 institutes.
ATMs to dispense Rs 50 notes
from Nov 11: RBI
Come November 11, ATMs in
the country will also dispense banknotes of Rs. 50 denomination.
- Currently, the lowest denomination note a customer
can get at an ATM is Rs. 100.
Nadda launches “Healthy India
Initiative” magazine and mobile app
The Union Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare J P Nadda has launched Healthy India Initiative magazine and
No More Tension mobile App for the promotion of health and to strengthen the
health communications programmes.
- Healthy India Magazine: It will be a quarterly
magazine. It will cater to health-related information and raise awareness
about healthy living.
- No More Tension App: It will help users to manage stress and will also provide information regarding stress, symptoms and its management.
Uttarakhand Ratna for ND

Uttarakhand Chief Minister
Harish Rawat today conferred the Uttarakhand Ratna award on his arch rival and
former chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari on the occasion of the state's 17th
foundation day.
- The gesture was interpreted in the political circles as a smart political move ahead of next year's Assembly election in the state to capitalise on the Congress veteran's influence in the Kumaon region.
Competition Commission of India (CCI) selected to host
ICN 2018 Annual Conference
Recognising the growing stature of Competition Commission of India (CCI) in
the world, International Competition Network (ICN) has accepted the proposal
and decided that Competition Commission of India would host the 2018 ICN Annual
Conference. This will be held at Delhi in March –April 2018.
- By virtue of this event, CCI has also been inducted
as an ex-officio member of the steering group member of the ICN for a
period of 3 years.
Protocol amending the Double Taxation Amending Convention
(DTAC) between India and Japan comes into force
A Protocol amending the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention (DTAC) between
India and Japan for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of
Fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income which was signed on 11th
December, 2015 has entered into force on 29th October, 2016 on completion of
procedural requirements by both countries.
- The Protocol amending the DTAC aims to promote
transparency and cooperation between the two countries.
- The Protocol provides for internationally accepted
standards for effective exchange of information on tax matters including
bank information and information without domestic tax interest.
Twitter COO Adam Bain is
stepping down
In a big loss to Twitter,
the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Adam Bain who was in charge of the
micro-blogging website’s revenue business, has decided to leave the
company.
- According to a company filing, Chief Financial
Officer (CFO) Anthony Noto will take over as COO.

Renowned theatre personality
and Padma Shri, Prof Raj Bisaria is all set to weave another feather in his cap
with the Madhya Pradesh government honouring him with its prestigious 'Kalidas
Samman' national award for 2015-16 for achievement in theatre.
- The ceremony will be held on November 10 in Ujjain.
