Aazadi 70 Saal, Yaad Karo Kurbani
Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated a multimedia exhibition on the theme of ‘Aazadi 70 Saal, Yaad Karo Kurbani’ to commemorate 70 years of India’s Independence and its depiction through films. 
  • The multimedia exhibition has been organised by National Film Archives of India, NFAI at the International Film Festival of India, IFFI in Goa.


Sangai Festival 2016 begins in Manipur
The 10-day-festival ‘Sangai Festival 2016’ inaugurated by Manipur CM Okram Ibobi Singh on November 21, 2016.
  • It will continue till November 30, 2016, with the theme: ‘Destination Manipur’. The main aim is to celebrate the festival to promote Manipur as a potential tourist destination.


Sack 70-year-old cricket bosses, says Lodha panel

Tightening the leash on the powerful and the political among the administrators in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its member State associations, the R.M. Lodha-led Supreme Court Committee has reiterated before the apex court its recommendation to remove office-bearers who are over 70 years old, government ministers and those who have already served at the Board’s helm for nine years.
  • In its third report filed in the court, the committee said the Supreme Court had upheld its recommendations in a July 18, 2016, judgment, and the time had come to implement them so that work on reforming the Board could go ahead.


Artificial intelligence by BSE:
BSE has introduced a data analytics-based solution that relies on artificial intelligence to track news related to listed companies on digital media using social media.
  • The objective of the tool is to detect and mitigate potential risks of market manipulation and rumours, and to reduce information asymmetry arising from it on digital media platforms.


Guided Missile Destroyer INS Chennai Joins the Indian Navy
INS Chennai, a P 15A Guided Missile Destroyer, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy. This marks the formal induction into the Navy of the third and the last of the three ‘Kolkata’ class destroyers.
  • The vessel is indigenously designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house organisation, Directorate of Naval Design and constructed by Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai.


Prithvi-II missiles successfully test-fired
Two Prithvi-II missiles were recently successfully test-fired from the launch complex-III of the Integrated Test Range near Balasore in Odisha. 
  • The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) fired the missiles from a road-mobile launcher.
  • Prithvi-II is a short-range surface-to-surface missile Inducted into India’s armed forces in 2003, Prithvi II is the first missile to be developed by DRDO under India’s prestigious IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Program).


India’s public health care to get a new boost
Boosting the capacity of Indian healthcare industry further, UNSW Australia and Medvarsity – Apollo Hospital Group’s e-learning venture, have come together. 
  • A fully online, new Master of Public Health (International) programme has been tailored by the university specifically for Indian students. UNSW public health degree launched in India will strengthen our capacity to respond to major health challenges.
  • The new degree, aimed at doctors and other health professionals, will be delivered and awarded by UNSW, along with an internship at an Apollo health site.


Akshaya Mukul wins Shakti Bhatt prize
Senior journalist Akshaya Mukul has been awarded the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize for his book "Gita Press and the Making of Hindu India".
  • Judges and authors Samanth Subramanian, Mahesh Rao and Janice Pariat said they chose Mukul's book for its "eye-opening and captivating exploration into a parallel literary culture that can often feel at a great remove from English-speaking metropolitan India".

Mahesh Bhalla, former Executive Director of Dell’s Consumer & SMB business in India, has been appointed as Chief Mentor of StartupsClub India.

Radhika Menon awarded IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea
Captain Radhika Menon on 21 November 2016 was bestowed with the 2016 International Maritime Organization (IMO) Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea at IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
  • Menon was honoured with the prestigious award for her role in the rescue of seven fishermen from a sinking fishing boat in the Bay of Bengal in June 2015. iii. With this, Captain Menon became the first female to receive the IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea.


Ex-Governor of Madhya Pradesh Ram Naresh Yadav dies
Ram Naresh Yadav, former Governor of Madhya Pradesh, passed away on 22 November 2016 aged 89 at a hospital in Lucknow after a prolonged illness. 
  • The veteran Congress leader had served as Madhya Pradesh Governor between August 2011 and September 2016. 
  • He was also Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister between 1977 and 1979.


Irish novelist William Trevor dies aged 88
Irish novelist and playwright William Trevor has passed away at the age of 88. 
  • Trevor won the Whitbread Prize thrice and was nominated five times for the Booker Prize. 
  • The novelist, who also received an honorary knighthood for his services to literature.


Bhullar wins Indonesia Open, Jeev Milkha Singh tied-second
Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar has won the $300,000 BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open for the second time in his career.
  • Two-time Asian Tour number one Jeev Milkha Singh finished tied-second in the tournament, which was his best result since 2012. 
  • It was Bhullar's overall seventh Asian Tour victory and the second title this season.
