November 26 - Constitution Day 2016:
The Constitution Day in India, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated on 26th of November every year to spread the importance of the constitution and thoughts and ideas of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.

  • On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which went into effect on 26 January 1950.
  • The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day in honour of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar who is known as the Father of Constitution of India.


Committee on Cashless transactions
The Government of India has constituted a Committee of Officers to enable 100% conversion of Government – Citizen Transactions to the digital platform. 
  • This is seen as a transformative attempt to weed out black money and corruption from public life. The committee is headed by NITI Aayog CEO Mr. Amitabh Kant.


Ministry of Culture Releases Commemorative & Circulation Coin on 500th Anniversary of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Coming to Vrindavan

Ministry of Culture has released a Commemorative Non-Circulation Coin of ₹500 and a Circulation Coin of ₹10 as part of year-long celebrations of commemoration of “500th Anniversary of Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Coming to Vrindavan”.
  • Government of India is commemorating the 500th anniversary of Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Coming to Vrindavan by organizing various programmes and Exhibitions on Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s life and teachings in association with Vrindavan Research Institute and ISKCON.


Apparel & Garment Making Centre at Imphal, Manipur
An Apparel & Garment Making Centre will shortly be inaugurated at Imphal, Manipur. The Centre at Imphal has been constructed
  • The project has been completed by the Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC).


AirSewa portal
Airsewa portal was recently launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. It is an initiative of the Ministry to offer people a convenient and hassle-free air travel experience.
  • The portal will include a mechanism for grievance redressal, backoffice operations for grievance handling, flight status/schedule information, airport Information and FAQs.


Railways to introduce ‘Tri-Netra’ to check collisions
Railways may soon get an advanced system, called “Tri-Netra”, on its trains which will help reduce train accidents by keeping a record of the track maintenance and will also provide better visibility during foggy days. A proposal in this regard has already been initiated.
  • Tri-Netra stands for ­ “terrain imaging for diesel drivers infrared, enhanced optical and radar assisted system”. 
  • The system provides a locomotive pilot a clear view of up to one kilometre on a straight track, even during inclement weather.


DGPs/IGPs Conference-2016:
The 51st post-Independence DGPs/IGPs Conference-2016 was recently inaugurated by the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh at Hyderabad.
  • The Conference would deliberate on various security-related issues confronting the nation, and to come out with ways and means to tackle them.


China’s ‘father of hybrid rice’ sets world record
A Chinese agricultural scientist, known as the “father of hybrid rice”, has set a series of new world records
  • A new world record in output of double-cropping rice was set in south China’s Guangdong, which achieved an annual yield of 1,537.78 kg of rice per mu (about 0.07 hectares) of farmland.
  • Hybrid rice, also known as super rice in China, is produced by crossbreeding different kinds of rice.


Bangladesh to honour 1,668 martyrs of the Indian Army
Bangladesh will honour 1,668 members of the Indian Army, who were martyred during the Bangladesh Liberation War. 
  • Their families will receive a Rs. 5 lakh purse as a mark of respect, said Liberation War Affairs Minister A.K.M. Mozammel Huq. 
  • a war memorial in the Brahmanbaria district [in Bangladesh] to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives for our war of liberation and independence.




South Indian Bank launches contactless debit card
The Kerala-based South Indian Bank has launched contactless debit card which is based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. 
  • Customers can also use this card as contact chip card. 
  • If customers use this card at the contactless PoS terminal, the customer simply has to just wave the card on the terminal and the payment is processed wirelessly in a fast and secure manner.


Demonetisation is a draconian move: Greek Minister
Greece and the European Union implemented many measures to counter black money and the “grey economy,” but nothing so “draconian” or drastic as the Indian government’s demonetisation exercise, Greek  Alternate Minister for foreign affairs George Katrougalos has said.


Nalanda University Chancellor resigns
Former Singapore Foreign Minister and Chancellor of Nalanda University, George Yeo, resigned.
  • The Centre had superseded the University’s Governing Board.


Rajiv Gandhi assassin Nalini Sriharan to release book on prison life
Nalini Sriharan who has remained in prison for more than 24 years acclaiming the title as the longest serving women prisoner in India, has finally given a nod to release a book about her prison life. 
  • In it she explains about the torture she went through inside the prison and her surprise meeting with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
  • The book titled, ''Rajiv Gandhi assasin, hidden truths, Priyanka meeting Nalini'' was written by Egalaivan with Nalini's permission.


Mary Kom to Receive 'Legends Award' from International Boxing Association
Celebrated Indian boxer M C Mary Kom is all set to add another honour to her glittering career when she receives the 'Legends Award' from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on its 70th anniversary on December 20.
  • At present, the Olympian and a five-time world champion is a Rajya Sabha MP. President Pranab Mukherjee nominated her as a member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament in April 2016. 
  • Mary Kom is also a multiple-time Asian champion and was named an AIBA brand ambassador during the 2016 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships.


Veteran journalist Dileep Padgaonkar passes away
Noted journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Times of India’, Dilip Padgaonkar passed away on 25 November 2016, following a heart attack and multi-organ failure. 
  • He began his career as a journalist in 1968 as The Times of India's Paris correspondent. He became the newspaper's editor in 1988, a post he held for six years.


Co-creator of MiG-29 Ivan Mikoyan dies aged 89
Ivan Mikoyan, Russian aircraft designer and one of the minds behind the MiG-29 fighter jet has died, aged 89. 
  • He was a lead engineer at MiG Aircraft Corporation's design bureau, founded by his uncle Artyom Mikoyan. 
  • He awarded the USSR State Prize twice for his contributions to the MiG project and  remained a company adviser until his death.
  • He had ruled Cuba as a one-party state for almost half a century (from 1976 to 2008) before handing over the powers to his brother Raul Castro in 2008 due to ill health.


BCCI creates anti-doping helpline for domestic cricketers
The doping menace in India’s Olympic sport has always left the establishment embarrassed and the BCCI in a marked departure has set up an ‘Anti Doping’ helpline so that its domestic cricketers (men and women) are aware about the medicines and supplements they are taking.
