All India Conference of CAT
Two-day All India Conference of CAT was recently held in Delhi. The
Conference was inaugurated by Shri Justice T. S. Thakur, Chief Justice of
India.
- The Central Administrative Tribunal was established by an Act of Parliament namely Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985 as sequel to the 42nd amendment of the Constitution of India inserting Article 323 A.
e-Pashuhaat
e-pashuhaat portal was recently launched to connect farmers and breeders of
bovine animals. The portal was launched on the occasion of birth anniversary of
the father of India’s White Revolution Verghese Kurien and National Milk Day.
- The Centre through the portal will provide all
details at a single platform, including availability of bovine germplasm.
- It will be a platform for sell of bovines, including
information on semen, embryos and live animals with all the agencies and
stake holders in the country.
PM Modi launches Indian Police
app that helps you locate nearest police stations
An app launched by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi on 27th November helps the citizen locate the nearest
police stations wherever he or she is Not just that, the Indian Police app
provides the names of the police stations, the telephone numbers, the distance
from the place where you are and how much time it will take to reach whichever
police station one wants to go to.
- The app also prompts one to call any of the numbers
listed with the 'Tap to call' facility.
Delhi has overtaken Mumbai to
become India's economic capital: Oxford Economics study
According to data released
by Oxford Economics, Mumbai is at number 31 among 50 top metropolitan economic
entities globally in 2015, while Delhi is at 30.
- The Delhi extended urban agglomeration (EUA) had a
Gross domestic product (GDP) at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of
$370 billion.
- Mumbai EUA had a GDP of $368 billion.
PM Modi flag off state-of- the
art Hamsafar train from Kushinagar, UP
PM Narendra Modi flagged off
the Humsafar train between Gorakhpur and Delhi`s Anand Vihar terminus from
Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.
- This train will run between this two station
thrice in a week.
- Humsafar train will have several new features,
including LED screen display, vending machines for tea, coffee and
milk, hot, refrigerated pantry and ports for charging electronic devices
such as mobiles and laptops.
- The Railway ministry notifies that hijras, eunuchs,
apart from binary gender to be treated as the third gender for the purpose
of safeguarding their rights under Part III of our Constitution and
the laws made by the parliament and the State Legislature.
Dying declaration of burn
victim admissible: SC
In a significant ruling in
criminal law, the Supreme Court held that the dying declaration of a burn
victim against her attackers should not be dismissed simply her burn injuries
are extensive, even a 100 per cent.
- The Supreme Court said trial courts cannot brush aside the last words of a victim on the presumption that the burns are so grave that it would have affected the mind and consciousness.
Transgender
or third gender option now in railway reservation forms
The Railways and Indian
Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) have included
“transgender/third gender” as a gender option alongside males and females in
the Railway Ticket Reservation Forms (both online as well offline).
- The inclusion is in compliance with an April 2014
judgment of the Supreme Court of India in the case of NALSA vs. Union of
India.
UNESCO Salon Competition:
Toonz wins award for 'Magical Piano'
'Magical Piano', a short
film by the Toonz Media Group has won an award at the prestigious UNESCO Salon
Youth Video Competition 2016.
- Dr Avaneesh, Head of Development, Toonz Media Group
received the award from Salon Films Chairman Fred Wang and
UNESCO chief of Public Relations and Partnerships, Armelle
Arrou.
- ‘Magical Piano’ is the story of a child who receives
a magical piano for his birthday. The story was written
by Mayul Verma from Agra, India.
WHO settles India, EU medicine dispute
In a significant victory for the global access to medicines campaign, the
World Health Organisation (WHO) has dropped the term ‘counterfeit’ and retained
‘falsified’ to describe medicines of inferior quality.
- The terms were being used interchangeably to
confiscated Indian made generic drugs exported to other countries by
showing that they were in violation of intellectual property.
13th World Robot Olympiad Commences:
The 13th World Robot Olympiad is being held in India.
- It is jointly organized by National Council of
Science Museums (NCSM) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture and India
STEM Foundation (ISF).
- The theme for this year’s event is ‘Rap the Scrap’.
RBI introduces incremental CRR to manage excess liquidity
The Reserve Bank of India has increased the cash reserve requirement (CRR)
for incremental deposits between September 16 and November 11 to 100%. The move
is estimated to suck out around Rs 3.24 lakh crore excess liquidity from the
system.
- One of the main reasons for the RBI move is the
rising amount of excess funds that banks were keeping with RBI through its
reverse repo window. With the withdrawal of the legal tender status of Rs
500 and Rs 1,000 denomination bank notes beginning November 9, there has
been a surge in deposits relative to the expansion in bank credit, leading
to large excess liquidity in the system.
E-commerce firms like Flipkart
and Snapdeal to deduct TCS under GST
As per the new GST law,
E-commerce giants Flipkart and Snapdeal will have to deduct 2% TCS(Tax
Collected at Source) while making payments to their suppliers and
deposited TCS amount with the governmentE-commerce firms like Flipkart and
Snapdeal to deduct TCS under GST.
- The new model GST law provides for 1 per cent TCS
and 1 per cent tax levied on inter-state movement of goods. It will not
apply to aggregators like Ola,Uber etc.
Insolvency and Bankruptcy
Board sets up two advisory panels
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy
Board of India (IBBI) has sets up 2 high-level committees under the Insolvency
and Bankruptcy Code to consolidate and amend laws relating to reorganisation as
well as insolvency resolution of corporate persons, partnership firms and
individuals in a time-bound manner.
- The Advisory committee on service
providers consists of 9 members, the panel is lead by educationist
Mohandas Pai.
- Corporate insolvency and
liquidation panel is chaired by noted banker Uday Kotak.
- Other members of the committee includes BSE CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan, Credit Information Bureau Chairman M V Nair and Corporate and Economic Research Group Advisory’s Chairperson Omkar Goswami.
Ola teams up with SBI, PNB for
setting up mobile ATMs
Indian online transportation
network company Ola cabs has tied up with lenders like State Bank of
India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) to set up mobile ATM in the cab
to help people withdraw cash easily.
- Ola will first introduce the service on
the test basis in its cabin Kolkata and Hyderabad where the taxis
with POS machine and a bank officer will be parked at different
locations and an amount of Rs. 2,000 can be withdrawn per card.
- In Kolkata, Ola has partnered with Punjab National
Bank (PNB), while in Hyderabad, it has collaborated with SBI and Andhra
Bank.
- The already running experimental service is started
for a week and will continue till.
IAS officer wins gold in
Para-Badminton Championships
Uttar Pradesh-based IAS
officer Suhas LY won the Asian Para-Badminton Championships in Beijing after
defeating Indonesia's Harry Susanto 21-4, 21-11 in the final.
- Suhas, who is currently posted as the Azamgarh district magistrate, was a wildcard entry to the tournament and had won six consecutive matches to reach the final.

Pink, the Amitabh
Bachchan starrer Bollywood film, has been invited by the Assistant
Secretary-General of the United Nations for a special screening at its headquarters
in New York, USA.
- Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and written by Ritesh Shah, the film- a modern Indian courtroom drama- highlights the issue of gender violence. It is by far being considered as one of the best works by the all-time Bollywood superstar- Amitabh Bachchan and one of the most successful releases of 2016.
Marathi litterateur Anand
Yadav passes away
Noted Marathi author and
Sahitya akademi awardee Anand Yadav died in Pune on 27
November.
- His autobiography 'Zombi' had won
Sahitya Akadmi award in 1991.
- During his illustrious career, Yadav had faced a
major controversy over his book 'Santsurya Tukaram', wrote on Sant
Tukaram, a saint-poet from 17th century.
Rosberg is the new World champion
Germany’s Nico Rosberg
celebrated his first Formula One World championship on Sunday after finishing
runner-up in a tense Abu Dhabi Grand Prix won by Mercedes team mate Lewis
Hamilton amid accusations of ‘dirty tricks’.
- Hamilton chalked up his 10th win of the season, and fourth in a row, but was powerless to do anything about the championship outcome despite making every effort.
