Govt launches Tele-Law through CSCs To Mainstream Legal Aid in Rural India
The government of India has launched ‘Tele Law’ service to provide legal aid for the people living in rural areas through video conferencing.
  • Under the scheme, a portal called ‘Tele-Law’ will be launched, which will be available across the Common Service Centre (CSC) network. 
  • This will connect the citizens to legal service providers with the help of technology enabled platforms.
  • ‘Tele-Law’ will enable people to seek legal advice from lawyers through video conferencing available at the Common Service Centres (CSC).


India, UNOSSC launch partnership fund to promote sustainable development
India and the UN Office for South- South Cooperation have launched a partnership fund that will support sustainable development projects across the developing world.
  • Managed by UNOSSC, the India-UN Development Partnership Fund will support Southern-owned and led, demand-driven, and transformational sustainable development projects across the developing world.


India awards road contract to complete Kaladan project in Myanmar
The contract for building 109-km road connecting Paletwa river terminal to Zorinpui in Mizoram border has been awarded by the government. The construction is expected to start after the monsoon in October.
  • The Kaladan project connects Sittwe Port in Myanmar to the India-Myanmar border.
  • The project was jointly initiated by India and Myanmar to create a multi-modal platform for cargo shipments from the eastern ports to Myanmar and to the North-eastern parts of the country through Myanmar.


India, Mauritius sign MoU to institutionalize cooperation between Parliaments
India and Mauritius have signed an MoU to institutionalize cooperation between Parliaments of the two countries. 
  • The MoU was signed by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Speaker of National Assembly of Mauritius Santi Bai Hanoomanjee in Port Louis.
  • Mrs. Mahajan was on a five-day visit to Mauritius from 6th of June with a Parliamentary delegation.


Kolkata to get India's first underwater Metro
Kolkata, the ‘City of Joy’ is about to experience a wonder in the form of an underwater Metro train which will run beneath the Hooghly river. It’s one of the path-breaking projects in India as never before a tunnel has been dug beneath a flowing river.
  • The entire project is 16.6 km long, out of which 10.8 km runs under the ground. Of this 10.8 km, 502 meters is under the water. The project connects Howrah to the west and Salt Lake to the east.
  • The project is expected to be completed by December 2019.


Scientists conjure up largest virtual universe:
Researchers from the University of Zurich have simulated the formation of our entire universe with a large supercomputer. 
  • A gigantic catalogue of about 25 billion virtual galaxies has been generated from 2 trillion digital particles. 
  • This catalogue is being used to calibrate the experiments on board the Euclid satellite, that will be launched in 2020 with the objective of investigating the nature of dark matter and dark energy.


Floating solar farm reflects China’s clean energy aims:
China has launched the world’s largest floating solar farm. The 40-megawatt power plant has 1,60,000 panels resting on a lake that emerged after the collapse of a coal mine in central Anhui province. 
  • It is part of Beijing’s effort to wean itself off a fossil fuel dependency that has made it the world’s top carbon emitter, with two-thirds of its electricity still fuelled by coal.  


Limaye to quit BCCI post, to head NSE
Veteran banker Vikram Limaye will quit the Committee of Administrators (CoA) for the BCCI on July 14 to take over as the Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has cleared Mr. Limaye’s appointment, provided he gives up his role in the cricket panel.


India likely to be power surplus in FY18
India may become a power surplus country in the current fiscal as the energy shortage and peak power deficit was less than 1% in April with many States reporting nil electricity deficit.
  • As per the Central Electricity Authority’s report for April, the energy shortage was 0.5% icompared with 1.4% a year earlier. In April, the energy shortage was 0.1% each in the western, southern and eastern region.


Poet, essayist Haraprasad Das gets Kalinga Literary Award
Legendary poet and essayist Haraprasad Das was conferred with the covetous Kalinga Literary Award for his work and contribution to literature at the fourth edition of Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF).
  • The three-day literary festival was inaugurated by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.


Transgender appointed social development officer
The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) had appointed a transgender as a social development officer.
  • Sadhana Kinnar, originally known as Sadhana Mishra, hails from Keonjhar town and holds an MA in Social Work and Business Administration.
  • This is for the first time in the country that a transgender has been appointed in the private sector


QS World University Rankings 2018
QS World University Rankings 2018 have been released. The QS World University Rankings are published annually by British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). 
  • The QS rankings give highest weightage of 40% to academic reputation, followed by faculty-student ratio and citations per faculty (20% each), and employer reputation (10%).
  • Only 12 Indian institutions and universities have made it to the top 700 this year with IIT-Delhi topping at 172 rank while IISc, Bengaluru gets 190th rank. IIT- Bombay is at 179th


Jairam Ramesh’s book on the naturist in Indira Gandhi launched
The book “Indira Gandhi – A life in Nature”, was launched by Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the Indira Gandhi Memorial.
  • The book was authored by Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh. The 488-page book was launched to mark the birth centennial year of the former Prime Minister.


Nadal returns as the king of clay with La Decima
Rafel Nadal  claim a record 10th French Open crown by defeating Stan Wawrinka with  6-2, 6-3, 6-1 .
  • With this win, Nadal notched up another record of becoming the first player in the Open Era to win 10 titles at the same Grand Slam event.
  • Having won his 15th Grand Slam title, the Spaniard is now second behind Roger Federer on the all-time list for the most number of Grand Slam titles won.

Shashikant Kutwal wins gold at world chess championship for differently-abled
Shashikant Kutwal has won the gold medal at the 17th World Individual Chess Championship for differently-abled. 
  • The World Chess Championship was held in Slovakia. Shashikant Kutwal is a railway employee with Pune Division.
